About me

Lydia graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Music Degree.  She is a RCM certified advanced piano specialist due to successful fulfillment of the requirements for the Royal Conservatory Teacher Certificate Program.  Lydia also has held a BC Registered Music Teachers Certificate since 2001.  She is now a member of BCRMTA and CFMTA.

Lydia Yang was born and grew up in Seoul, South Korea.  She started to learn piano when she was 6 years old.  She immigrated to Canada with her family when she was 18 years old.  Lydia continued her piano studying at Langley Community Music School under the instruction of Leslie Janos, a former faculty member of Trinity Western University, Vancouver Academy of Music, and Langley Community Music School.   She entered UBC with receiving entrance scholarship after 2 years since she came to Canada.   She currently teaches at her private studio in Surrey and on the faculty of the Vancouver Comprehensive Music and Art School.

Having taught piano and music theory for over 25 years, Lydia enjoys working with students of all ages and levels.  She is highly specialized in conservatory exam preparation, university auditions, and piano competition preparation.  Her students routinely win awards and scholarship in piano competitions and get high marks on their conservatory examinations.  Many of her students went to universities in USA and Canada such as Berklee College of Music in USA, UBC, McGill, University of Toronto, University of Victoria, Capillano University, Kwantlen University, and Douglas College with entrance scholarship.  Most of them have gone onto successful music career as educators and performers.

Lydia likes to share and communicate her love of music with her students through explaining the musical background of the piece and composer's life that they are learning.  She offers well-organized and professional instruction to her students so that they are more easily to gain the highest possible level of achievement.  Lydia strives to stimulate, nurture, and guides her students into discovering their passion and potential.
