About me

From beginning to through concert level, I have taught and coached students to do more than play piano -- to make music, their own music. Proper technique is as important as having fun and reading music is as important as interpreting in your own unique way. My own career in piano and music has included teaching, coaching, and performances throughout the US and Europe as soloist and accompanist. I studied with the best at the American Conservatory of Chicago as a child, Wheaton Conservatory with a degree in performance, and The London Guildhall School of Music post-graduate. But it was my mother, a piano teacher who made music fun -- and meaningful -- that taught me the heart of music and performing. I love sharing my love of music and inspiring students to share themselves through their music. I teach beginners through advanced, coach advanced players for performance and competition, do vocal coaching for singers of all styles, and am a professional accompanist for soloists and choirs. I love all styles of music, and build a program around a student's interests and goals. I also incorporate digital tools for beginning fun, ear training, music theory, and creating music videos with my students. Learning piano is just the start of learning music in many ways and I love leading students in whatever ways they wish to explore.

Lesson details

My lessons are customized to the needs and goals of my students. Beginners are taught from a chordal basis so they can make music quickly, but are also given a strong foundation in note reading and technique. For more advanced students, pieces are chosen to build technique and interpretive skills from various musical eras - early music to modern and popular. Again, lessons include ear training, music history & theory, and performance skills.
