About me

Welcome. My name is Michelle Miller and I am a pianist and teacher residing in Edmonton, Alberta, where I run a thriving piano teaching studio in my home. I LOVE teaching piano lessons and music classes and have been doing so since since 1993 when I started my first year of university as a Music Major. My studio offers music classes and piano lessons that are comprehensive, engaging and fun with the goal of creating lifelong musicians. I love the opportunity to connect with families and watch young children grow up. I also enjoy building relationships with my adult students and experiencing their unique perspective on music learning. Building community is important to me and is something that makes this studio a very special one.

I emphasize fun and creative expression through improvisation, chord-play or arranging, lead sheet reading, composing and ensemble playing as well as regular repertoire and technique. I like to embrace new trends and materials in my teaching and hope to keep my students continually motivated through engaging music and activities while imparting confidence and valuable skills. My students are generally between the ages of 4-18 years. Most who arrive at my studio as young beginners stay to the end of their high school years, but it’s never too late to learn so I also offer adult “a la carte” lessons during the day.

Lesson details

At my studio I offer preschool music classes, beginner group piano classes and private piano lessons. Some of my students participate in RCM exams with excellent results, however I am most enthusiastic about teaching students who just want to learn to play simply for their own enjoyment. In fact, I hope that is what each student will leave my studio with: a life-long love of music making. It’s a joy to see young students grow up into confident musicians and young adults. The camaraderie and community we build through lessons, group classes and recitals enriches my life as well as theirs makes this a piano studio that stands out.

Education and Accreditation

Another passion of mine is life-long learning and I enjoy regular participation in conferences, seminars, webinars and mentorship opportunities. I’ve studied music for more than 30 years and still enjoy working on my performance and teaching skills. I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Trinity Western University and the ARCT Teacher’s Piano pedagogy exam with the Royal Conservatory of Music. I completed a rigorous MYCC certification through Music for Young Children and UMTC certification with Ultimate Music Theory. I am also certified as an Advanced Specialist in Piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music Teacher Certification Program, a member of the Alberta Piano Teacher’s Association and a registered music teacher with ARMTA.
I had the privilege of beginning my career at MacEwan University Conservatory of Music where I taught early childhood music classes for seven years. The freedom I had to build my own curriculum within the framework of the program’s objectives along with excellent mentoring from experienced faculty members is something I will always be so grateful for.
