About me

I am a group and private piano lesson teacher at Queen's Community Music (Kingston, ON). I primarily teach students between the ages of 5-16 years of age, using the Yamaha Music Education System (YMES) and Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum. I strive to create well-rounded musicians who are not only able to play the piano, but who are also knowledgeable about music theory, harmony, history, and the world around them. It is my hope each child is able to walk out of class each week feeling happy with their accomplishments, no matter what their musical goals may be. I teach students who are learning piano just for fun, those would like to enter exams (both Yamaha and RCM exams are possible), as well as those who want to learn how to compose their own pieces.

Lesson details

Group lessons meet for 60 minutes, once a week from Sept-June. All Yamaha group classes will take part in the Yamaha Year-End Concert held annually at the end of June. Students who are composing their own piece through the JOC program will be invited to take part in QCM's JOC concert mid-May. Students who are interested in taking a Yamaha exam should expect an exam date around late-May/early-June.

Private lessons can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length, depending on the age, level, and needs of the students, and generally take place once a week. Lessons run from Sept-June, with the option of extending the lesson package into the summer months if desired. Yamaha exams once again take place late-May/early-June, and RCM exams can happen at any time of year, depending on the student's progress and teacher's recommendation.
