About me

I am a passionate proponent of the piano and classical music. The great works of the past have enduring relevance and power even in today's world, with the ability to move, inspire, and touch both performer and audience. The study of piano should bring joy and curiosity in the student, and this is what I aspire to most in my teaching. I seek to present not just the nominal method to approach music, but to develop an understand of the linguistics behind the notes, and also to shape and develop each individual student's voice at the piano. I am a doctoral candidate at the Yale School of Music, with a Masters from Juilliard and a Bachelors from Columbia University. I am an actively performing artist, with highlights of my current season including a solo recital at SubCulture NYC, and a soloist appearance with the Cecilia Chorus at Carnegie Hall.

Specialties

Lesson details

My lessons differ greatly depending on the student. Time with advanced students is usually spent on discussion of repertoire, of rhetorical and theoretical concerns, and advice on performance, interpretation, and issues of genre. The linguistic underpinning of music theory is critical, and thus constitutes a core tenant of my teaching philosophy, from the very youngest child to even the most accomplished concert pianist.
