About me

Vivien Tse is a passionate Burnaby piano teacher and an accomplished musician, with a great love for teaching! She has an ARCT in Piano Performance, a UBC bachelor's degree in music, and is also an RCM-Certified Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced Teacher Specialist in both piano, theory, harmony, and history. She has been teaching piano and theory for 14 years since 2007, and has been playing piano for 30 years as a classically-trained pianist. She is also a versatile musician who is fluent in other musical genres as well, including pop, rock, jazz, Broadway, and more! She has a wealth of experience, having taught a wide range of levels to students of all ages, ranging from age 4 to 40!
In her high school and college years, Vivien studied advanced-level piano and pedagogy under the late renowned piano pedagogue Edward J. Parker and obtained her ARCT piano performance diploma under the tutelage of Capilano Music professor and RCM examiner David Vandereyk. She graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree majoring in music. In addition to piano, her other musical passions include singing and playing guitar.

Vivien is a passionate, positive, and encouraging teacher, and believes in creating positive learning experiences for each student, making lessons fun and exciting whenever possible. She believes in challenging her students to push themselves to their highest potential. She loves to pass on her love of music to her students, as she believes that a passion and love for playing music helps to create a positive attitude towards practicing and music-making. Vivien teaches kids and adults of all levels. She also specializes as a practice coach.

Lesson details

Vivien teaches all levels of piano and theory, from beginner to very advanced. Piano lessons are offered in a wide variety of musical genres and styles, from classical, pop, rock, jazz, Broadway, and more, depending on the student's musical preferences. Lessons are individualized to suit each student's needs and goals. Under the Royal Conservatory curriculum, lessons are offered from Preparatory to ARCT piano performance and piano pedagogy. In addition, Vivien also offers theory lessons in rudiments, harmony & counterpoint, analysis, and history. Music theory is integrated into the piano lesson at the beginner levels for optimal learning. Student recitals are held twice a year each spring and winter at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts to provide her students with essential performance opportunities and learn proper performance etiquette and showmanship in preparation for examinations, auditions, and competitions. Her students have participated in RCM exams and piano competitions, achieving high honours. RCM exam preparation available. 

Currently accepting students aged 7 and up.
