About me

Vivien Tse is a passionate musician and music teacher, with a great love for teaching! She has an ARCT in Piano Performance, a UBC Bachelor's degree in Music, and is also an RCM-certified Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced Specialist in both piano, theory, harmony, and history. She has been playing piano for 26 years as a classically-trained pianist, but is also a versatile musician who is fluent in other musical genres as well, including pop, rock, jazz, Broadway, and more!
Vivien has a wealth of experience teaching during the 10 years she has taught thus far since 2007. She has taught students of various ages, ranging from age 4 to 40!
Vivien studied piano pedagogy under Mr. Edward Parker and obtained her ARCT piano performance diploma under the tutelage of Capilano Music professor and RCM examiner David Vandereyk. She graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree majoring in Music. In addition to piano, her other musical passions include singing and playing guitar.

A passionate, positive, and encouraging teacher, Vivien believes that learning music is an integral part of a well-rounded education. She believes in challenging her students to push themselves to their highest potential. She loves to pass on her love of music to her students. She believes that a passion for music helps to create a positive attitude towards practicing. She helps her students establish and maintain effective practice habits. Vivien has taught kids and adults of all levels. She also specializes in teaching preschoolers.

 

Lesson details

Vivien teaches all levels of piano and theory, from beginner to very advanced. In piano, she offers lessons in a wide variety of musical genres and styles, from classical, pop, rock, jazz, Broadway, and more, depending on the student's musical preferences. Under the Royal Conservatory curriculum, she offers lessons from Preparatory to ARCT Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy. In addition, she also offers lessons in rudiments, harmony & counterpoint, analysis, and history. Lessons are focused on expressive piano-playing with a solid technical foundation. Theory is integrated into the piano lesson at the beginner and elementary levels.
Student recitals are held biannually each spring and winter at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts to give her students regular performance opportunities. Her students also participate in festivals and competitions, achieving high honours.
RCM exam preparation available.

Rates: Starting at $18.70 - $45 depending on duration of lesson.

Students aged 4 and up welcome! (Kids, teens, & adults!)

FREE trial lesson for each new student! An interview is required.
