About me

Victoria Warfield started her piano studies locally with Sherron Highsted-Berge and Audrey Mallinson (herself a student of Rudolf Serkin). At the age of sixteen, she completed the ARCT – Piano Performer degree with First Class Honours. She went on to UBC on scholarship and studied with Glen Geary and Dr. Dale Reubart. Over the years, she has continued her studies with such world-class artists as Anton Kuerti, Elyakkim Taussig, John Ogdon, Harold Zabrack, and Mark Westcott.

Miss Warfield has given recitals throughout western Canada and the United States as a soloist and chamber performer. She has directed several choirs. In addition, she has been active in musical theatre as a musical director, producer, and composer/arranger. Participating at all levels of music competitions, Miss Warfield has acted as an adjudicator, as well as a co-ordinator of music festivals in B.C. She is past president of the Clef Society of Burnaby.

Known as “Miss Vicki” to her students, she has has always been in demand as piano teacher. Her students have consistently maintained a keen interest in making beautiful music. Many have achieved high honours in the Royal Conservatory of Toronto examinations and received high awards in national and local music competitions. Her students range in ability from beginner to performer, and in age from pre-schoolers to seniors. Her teaching style is a fusion of European and North American influences and methods, with a strong emphasis on note reading and music appreciation.

Music is the first and most important method of communication for children. As your child grows, music continues as a basic form of communication and self- expression.

At Southport Piano Academy, early childhood music education empowers children to be the creators of their own music, both as an art form and as an educational experience.

Southport Piano Academy offers lessons that bring children together with music at the earliest opportunity. Piano lessons start children on the road to experiencing, knowing, and understanding music while reinforcing such logical concepts as beginning & end, cause & effect, sequence & balance, harmony & dissonance, as well as arithmetical concepts such as numbers, counting, timing, and patterns.

Early music education contributes strongly to “school readiness”. Music assists in developing language skills and spatial reasoning, expands memory, and encourages co-operation, collaboration, and group effort.

Give your child the gift of music today and shape a lifetime of learning and pleasure.

Lesson details

We all know that kids and music are just a natural fit……

If your child can recognize ABCDEFG and count 12345, they are ready to play!

Our unique “TIME TO BEGIN” pre-school lessons program has successfully started children as early as 3 years old in a private Parent & Tot setting. Learn along with your child and enjoy the discovery of piano music together.

As students advance, examinations are available from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, as well as most other recognized schools and conservatories.

Students may also choose to focus on a Popular or Jazz piano path for their music lessons.

Adult students will find a comfortable and relaxed environment ideal for learning to play or re-starting lessons after years away from the piano. These lessons have a strong focus on music appreciation.

Preparation for Music Theory examinations is available at our Richmond piano music lessons studio to supplement practical exams. High School equivalency credits are given with the completion of certain examinations.
