Vanier College School of Music

The Music Department of Vanier College offers five programs, each of which emphasizes the development of performance skills through private study and in small and large ensembles like the Vanier College Choirs, Concert Band, Guitar, Wind, Brass, Percussion, Jazz and Classical Ensembles. Soloists and ensembles are featured in a series of weekly noon-hour concerts as well as in occasional gala performances. Our programs offer a wide range of technology courses including recording techniques, MIDI applications (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and computer-integrated ear training and theory programs. Our facilities offer students a modern twelve-station computer lab and two digital recording studios. Students may also choose from an array of course electives including composition, technology, demo production, a second instrument, ensembles and combos.

Pre University Music (SRAM 501.0A)
This is a two-year pre-university program that prepares students for further music studies at the university level. Students concentrate on the development of performance skills through private study and in ensembles such as the Vanier College Choirs, Concert Band, Guitar, Wind, Brass, Percussion, and Jazz Ensembles. These are featured in a series of weekly noon hour concerts as well as in occasional gala performances.
Our program also offers a wide range of technology courses including recording techniques, MIDI applications (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and computer-integrated ear training and theory programs. Our facilities offer students a modern ten-station computer lab and two digital recording studios.
Students may also choose from an array of course electives including composition, a second instrument, jazz performance, and demo production.

Professional Music and Song Techniques 551.A0 (SRAM 551.A0)

This new three-year program, which will be harmonized with the revised two-year pre-university program (Music 501.A0), includes study of the student's instruments, music technology, and courses in commercial, jazz and studio music. There is also instruction in writing, arranging and performing contemporary music. This program will prepare students to perform popular music in recording, radio and television studios as well as in clubs and restaurants.

Double DEC in Science and Music (SRAM 200.11)
The Double DEC in Music & Science 200.51 is a pre-university program intended for students with an aptitude for both Music and Science. During six semesters, students will receive all the required courses for both Programs, and upon completion of the DEC, would be eligible to enter university in either a Science or Music program. Interested students must meet the entrance requirements of both the Music and Science Departments at Vanier College.

Double DEC in Social Science and Music (SRAM 300.11)
The Social Science and Music Double DEC is designed for students with an aptitude and interest in both Music and social sciences.
During six semesters, (three years) students will receive all the required courses for both pre-university diplomas. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive both a Social Science and a Music Diploma in Collegial Studies and are eligible for further studies at university in either field.

Double DEC in Modern Language and Music (SRAM 500.11)
The Modern Languages and Music Double DEC Program offers students the study of both music and languages at college in order to prepare for further studies at university in either of these fields. The student will take all the courses associated with both the Modern Languages DEC and the Pre-university Music DEC in six semester.
Modern Languages provides the option of studying two or three languages. The student who chooses three languages will reach the advanced level in one language and the intermediate level in the other two (L1). The student who chooses two languages will reach the advanced level in both languages (L2). Students do not need to choose between these two options until Semester Three.
