University of Manitoba School of Music

Considering Music? Consider the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba!

"Winnipeg is home to 12% of [Canada's] musicians...even though
it makes up just 2.25% of the country's population."
(from Who's Your City?: How the Creative Economy Is Making Where to Live the Most Important
Decision of Your Life by Richard Florida, Vintage Press, p. 120. [2009])

The Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music offers an outstanding University environment in one of Canada's most artistically vibrant cities. Winnipeg's rich and diverse cultural resources include the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Opera, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra. These and many others combine with our world-class professors to provide students with exceptional opportunities for the study, composition and performance of music.

The Faculty of Music offers instruction in all classical and jazz instrumental and vocal areas. Performance opportunities abound and are further enriched by our extensive ensemble and chamber music offerings.

If you are a visitor to our campus or a resident of Winnipeg we invite you to attend our student, faculty or guest recitals.
