About me

I have been teaching for 18 years and very much enjoy the beauty of music and the fundamentals in teaching it to other students. I very much enjoy seeing my students create their own style of music as it inspires others to do the same. I believe the most important thing in teaching is not only to teach, but to build character and focus on each individual personally in encouraging, supporting, and strengthening their sense of self confidence in who they are as a person.

Lesson details

I teach primarily from the method books, but spend a lot of time focusing on the Theory and Technique as I believe those are the building blocks on which the foundation of music comes from. I also try to incorporate fun songs from supplementary styles/books chosen by student/teacher to broaden their view and make it more exciting to venture outside the books.

There is also now 3 group lessons offered throughout the school calendar year. These times are very important as usually there are 8 students or less per group lesson and we focus more on playing for each other when getting ready for Festivals (recitals), learning more fundamentals of music through fun music games-note values, rhythm and counting, notation on the keys, staff work, etc. It is a lot of fun and a lot of students enjoy the fun music game and door prize at the end. These are all paid encounters. I believe that group participation really helps each student grow in their understanding of music and also in their self confidence amongst their peers. Very rewarding!
