Susan Edwards

Vancouver BC | V6M 1A6

About me

Susan studied voice and piano, attaining Associate degrees from the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Victoria Conservatory of Music. She was a student in the Bachelor of Music program at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon), the University of Victoria and the Victoria Conservatory of Music. She spent two years in London, England studying voice and participating in the Else Mayer-Lismann Opera Workshop.
She has performed as vocal soloist, collaborative pianist with singers and instrumentalists, and accompanist for dance classes. Susan has been a very active member of the choral community in Vancouver, singing in many choirs. She has sung in Elektra Women’s Choir for many years, and has performed with them in British Columbia and Alberta, Seattle, San Diego, Lincoln Centre and Carnegie Hall in New York, as well as in New Zealand, and at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. She currently sings with Elektra and the Vancouver Peace Choir.

She has taught voice, piano and music rudiments as an independent teacher in Vancouver since 1986. She welcomes students of all ages from beginners to advanced, and is happy to work on repertoire of varied styles. Many of her students study both voice and piano with her. She prepares those who are interested for examinations, festivals, auditions, performances and her informal musical afternoons/evenings. Susan conducts a small group of her adult singers, ‘A Choired Taste’, who perform at seniors’ residences and care facilities.
She offers workshops for singers including among others: IPA Diction for Singers and a Sing & Roll Camp utilizing Yamuna Body Rolling.
Susan often incorporates various relaxation exercises and alignment techniques into the lessons. These encourage an increased awareness of the body and greater fluidity of movement, facilitating the students’ ability to express themselves musically with greater power, flexibility and sensitivity.

Susan truly enjoys having the opportunity to nurture her students’ love and appreciation of music and to guide them in their journey to become fulfilled and excellent musicians.
