About me

My name is Stacey McDonald and I run a thriving piano studio out of my West Philadelphia/University City home. As a teacher, I specialize in teaching young children (age 4) through the teenage years. I have a particular strength for teaching beginners--making the learning process fun & inspiring, while getting students set on the right path for successful learning. I have approximately 8 years of teaching experience and currently have a roster of about 25 students, with room for a few more.

Lessons take place Monday-Friday in the afternoon & evening hours (3pm-8pm). Lessons are 30-minutes, 45-minutes, or 60-minutes in length depending on the students level.

All lessons take place at my studio at 48th & Chester Avenue in University City (easily accessible from the 13 Trolley, the 64 bus and the Media-Elwyn Regional Rail). I will not travel to students' homes.

I am deeply committed to developing long-lasting relationships with students & parents. I want to see my students thrive, both as pianists and as world citizens.

Specialties

Making music fun and inspiring for young children, ages 3-10.

Lesson details

I strive to make piano lessons fun and inspiring for young children. Children are excited to learn music when challenging materials are taught in fun and creative ways!

I like to break lessons into "sections." The first section of every lesson is spent reviewing concepts from the previous week's lesson. The second section is spent playing songs which the child has already learned. The third section can be spent playing a game which introduces a new musical concept, or it can be spent learning a new song. Depending on the child (or the child's attention span) more sections might be added into the lessons, including whiteboard activities, singing, listening or improvising at the piano.
