About me

Teaching piano lessons is a privilege for me because the nature of the subject leads to the discovery of so many parallels within other areas of life. I want you all to know that I take this profession seriously and look forward to sharing our experiences of music and life, together. Let me tell you about myself. I am a graduate of the college of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance; I received my Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. (Piano Pedagogy is the study of teaching piano instruction on a private studio basis, differing from the general music education degree which certifies instruction within the public school systems.) I have taught in my home and at other private and commercial settings. With over 30 years of experience, I have taught all levels for both children and adults. I have a musical husband who plays and builds acoustic guitars, and four wonderful sons ranging from ages 19 to 28. They are the only ones who take priority over my music. I enjoy performing music for both casual and formal occasions. My repertoire is mostly classical but I think it is important to learn to play the type of music you enjoy most, so I do supplement our lessons every now and then with your own choices of songs and styles.
