About me

I love teaching students of all ages, levels and abilities. Music is not my profession, it is my life. Since music is such a life-enriching art, I believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn and experience music. Classical music is my teaching foundation, but I teach realistically - I teach students how to sight-read and play many styles of music, so that they will be able to contribute their musical skills and abilities to whatever situation they are in - whether playing for a church service, accompanying a chorus, entertaining family and friends, or on a concert stage. I believe in developing well-rounded musicians who are more than just 'singers' or 'piano players.' I offer private lessons that include group and ensemble experiences throughout the year, so the students receive the best of both worlds - solo performing and performing with groups and ensembles. We have summer piano camps, musical theatre camps, beginning piano camps, and vocal camps.

Specialties

My students excel in all the music festivals, competitions and talent shows they enter, whether it be classical music, popular music, sacred music, contemporary music, theme music, seasonal music, or standards. Many of my students often perform concerts for community and church groups - from Sweetheart Banquets to club meetings to church senior groups to nursing homes. Each student has a repertoire list of many songs and many styles of songs that they can perform at a moment's notice...whether they have their printed music or not! I encourage my students to 'fall in love' with the music they perform and to sing or play it from the heart. That is when music is beyond notes - it is sublime!

Lesson details

I offer a program of instruction that includes private lessons, group lessons, musicianship classes, summer camps, practice recitals, three yearly concerts, festivals, competitions, talent shows, etc. We not only learn to sing or play an instrument, but we learn music theory, sight singing, sight reading, music history, composers, musical periods, stylistic performance from each period, ear training, composing and more. Each minute counts in lessons, as we learn HOW to practice, so that much can be accomplished in a short amount of time at home.
