Pamela Kalt - Aysgarth Piano Studio

New Haven (Westville) CT | 06515

About me

A classically trained musician in piano and voice, PAMELA KALT has been teaching solo piano since her graduation from SUNY Fredonia (B.A. Applied Music), where she studied with Distinguished Artist-in-Residence, acclaimed author, concert pianist and recording artist, the late Claudette Sorel.

Ms. Kalt's many successful students have studied with her privately and also at Manhattan's St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's Independent School near Columbia University as well as the Lyceum Kennedy French School and Trevor Day School Music Conservatory. Her solo repertoire is large and varied, and she encourages her students to explore new music as well as the standard literature.

With time out for an enormously versatile performing career of 15 years as a professional singer/actress, her vast wealth of stage experience enhances her ability to demonstrate what it takes to be a gracious performer in front of an audience of any size. Ms. Kalt brings her extensive professional music background to bear as a piano instructor whose special gift for working with children and young adults is impressive and unique. She is a dedicated mentor, displaying care and patience with the young beginner, as well as a passion for imbuing her students with the love of music and the joy of learning to play the piano.

Ms. Kalt balances an instinct for evoking the student's trust and desire to learn, with the requisite task of cultivating disciplined practice habits. Her more advanced proteges' consistent growth in technical skill, interpretation, and musicianship emanate naturally from her guidance, inspiration and tutelage. Now located in West Haven, Ms. Kalt welcomes students from all the Havens, Orange, Milford, Hamden -- anywhere in So. Central Connecticut. You or your child will enjoy having your lessons on her new Kohler & Campbell grand piano.

As a teacher, I am interested in fostering the love of music and in particular, the enchantment with the PIANO! One does not have to be a grand master to enjoy sitting at the instrument and bringing forth the sound of melodies, harmonies, hands crossing over one another, the discovery of the language of music, for indeed, it is like learning a new language. And it is with this in mind, I am intent on watching my students closely and devising their weekly lesson plans so as to help them go home with a clarity of purpose and with luck, inspiration to improve and progress. They are advised to phone me with problems and difficulties so they don't waste time practicing incorrectly. I devote time for all my young musicians-in-the-making whenever possible and encourage them to listen to classical music, especially, and to attend concerts and programs with their parents. It builds interest and curiosity. The ability to play the piano is a lifelong endeavor, a thrill in the best of times, and a solace in difficult times.

Lesson details

My students' time with me is quite structured so as to make the most of our time together. We begin with assigned technical work, scales or arpeggi and other various technical exercises (I rely on the Dozen-a-Day series and even my adults use these as well as the children!) Then we begin to work together on the assigned repertoire, which is geared to the level of advancement and a balanced menu is vital (classics, modern, contemporary, early jazz and rock for fun). We sometimes end up by looking thru music for the near future and I will often sit down and play things I think will "light up" their young faces and give them pieces to look forward to playing themselves!
