About me

Nicholas Rada grew up in Vancouver, B.C., where he started to play and improvise on the piano at the age of four under the instruction of his father. Formal instruction continued in the hands of Patricia Hoebig, during which time Nicholas also started studying the violin under Helmut Hoebig. His early musical education consisted of intensive piano, violin, chamber music, and orchestra coaching with The Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra and The Vancouver Academy of Music. At the age of 14, Nicholas began working with Donna Fishwick, quickly becoming more involved as a soloist and as a chamber musician in the Young Pianists Recital Society. Performance opportunities have brought him to such cities as Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, Czeske Budejovice, Munich, Baden-Baden, Perugia, Udine, New York, Boston, New Haven, Montreal, Victoria, Vancouver, and many others.

Engaging in numerous local and national competitions, Nicholas has been the recipient of various awards, bursaries, grants and scholarships. While enrolled at the State University of New York at Purchase as a Bachelor of Music student under the tutelage of Dr. Sasha Starcevich, Nicholas was a regional finalist in the Music Teachers National Association Competition, as well as a top prizewinner in the national finals of the Canadian Music Competition. Other distinctions include a second place award at the Women's Musical Club Festival and the top prize at the Music Man Concerto Competition in Vancouver. Nicholas has performed as soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Il Soloisti di Perugia, the Vancouver Academy of Music, and the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Nicholas has been featured in master classes with Gary Grafman, Peter Frankl, Alexander Korsantia, Enrique Graf, Dang Thai Song, Ilana Vered,and numerous others. Nicholas has completed a Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance at the University of British Columbia studying with Dr. Sara Davis Buechner. Now, he regularly travels to New York City to work with Pavlina Dokovska.
Mr. Rada has been a returning judge at the Festival on the Lake, as well as the C3 Piano Concerto Competition in Calgary. Having been involved as a piano coach in New York, Hartford, New Canaan, South Carolina's Governor's School for the Arts, Nicholas currently continues to build his studio in Vancouver, B.C., providing more unique opportunities for his students, including several local festivals, competitions, concerts, and various international performance opportunities.

Lesson details

Nicholas Rada teaches students of all ages from beginner to University preparation. Nicholas teaches lessons to students from Burnaby, Vancouver, West and North Vancouver, Richmond and the U.B.C. area.
