Miss April

New Orleans LA | 70131

About me

I started MAMAS-NOLA, a developmental music program for infants and young children, last year when I came to New Orleans for graduate school in piano performance and arts administration at the University of New Orleans. As an undergraduate student at Emory University, I taught at the Emory Children's Music Development Center for four years. I later attended the University of Pennsylvania before accepting a music specialist position at Brevard Academy, a performing arts charter school in the Western North Carolina Mountains. I have taught all instruments, including woodwinds, brass, strings, and voice, but my specialty is piano.

Currently, I am offering small group keyboard instruction for children as young as 3 years using the Alfred Music for Little Mozarts Series and Musikgaren's Music Makers at the Keyboard. I will teach individual keyboard lessons for students as young as 6 years. I am also offering developmental courses for parents with infants and toddlers. I offer a music theory and composition course that integrates both written and computer skills for students learning any instrument using the Groovy Music series by Sibelius. I will also teach violin and/or voice lessons to students already in my keyboard studio wishing to take on a second/third instrument with me. All lessons incorporate music reading, composition, improvisation, and singing, in addition to keyboard technique. Young students learn to sing and play their favorite nursery rhymes and pop songs at the keyboard and later learn classical repertoire if they remain interested.
