Mimi Ho

Richmond BC | V7E 4N3

About me

Mimi began studying piano at the tender age of three, and the passion of music never left her since. She started her musical education in Hong Kong, and continued her music education in Vancouver, Canada. Her teachers include Ms. Yulin Yang, Dr. Sasha Starcevich, and Dr. Corey Hamm. She holds an ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and a Diploma of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Mimi has been teaching piano for nearly two decades, and have literally grown up with some of her students. She has experiences teaching students from 3 to 60, and keeps her lessons informative and fun for all ages. Her students participate actively in various local music festivals, and often achieve with excellent results. Her students also do well in RCM examinations, with some of her students being RCM Silver Medal award recipients.

As the current President of the BC Registered Teachers' Association - Richmond branch, Mimi is proud to work with other fellow teachers to maintain the high level of excellence in music education in her local community. Through involvement with the Richmond BCRMTA, Mimi continues to promote music in the community, helping the Association in providing performance opportunities for students in various local venues, awarding outstanding students with scholarships, and facilitating professional workshops for fellow members.

Mimi is a firm believer of "hearing is believing". The care she gives in her teaching are shown through her students' performances.

Performances of her students can be found on her youtube channel:

Mimi believes that each student is unique, and she embraces her believes by providing personal attention to each and every one of her students. She understands that each teacher-student relationship is a long-term relationship that requires much care in nurturing; her students are not merely her "clients", but her friends. She also encourages parental participation in her younger students' musical studies, as she believes that it is vital for her younger students' family to be supportive of their musical interests, and provide help in fostering a musical environment in their homes.

She puts equal emphasis on technique and musicality in her teachings, as she believes that both elements are complimentary in facilitating fluent, musical playing and to minimize the risk of stress-related injuries. She engages her students in various repertoire aside of RCM examination material, including ensemble opportunities and concertos.

In addition to providing regular studio classes where students have chances to perform for each other, she also puts her students regularly in recitals and local festivals. By encouraging an interactive atmosphere at her studio through studio classes and collaborations, she sparks interests in her students' musical education.
