About me

Michael Chen began to learn piano at age of 5 years and achieved Top Grade Certificate of piano performance of both China Musician Association Examination and China Conservatory examination when he was 14 years old. Overtime he majored in Composition and take private piano lessons from great educators. After his undergraduate studies, he went to Faculty of Music of Leeds University in United Kingdom and pursed both composition and piano performance there, and he was rewarded Master of Music finally as a composer and music producer. When he was working in mainland China, in addition to his full time job as a music director, he taught private piano and music theory as his part-time activities. Among his students, more than 60 got high level certificates of piano examination, and some outstanding students had ever won 1st to 3rd prize in piano competition. Besides, he did successfully perform in recitals with specific topics, included Shostakovich's piano music, and Beethoven's early period piano sonatas.

Michael immigrated to Canada in 2008 and continue his private music lessons. Now he is running his own piano studio and teaching private piano and theory lessons at TOMLEE academy. During these years, many of his students successfully reached First Honour or with distinction in the piano and theory examinations held by RCM; some of his students have ever performed recitals with solo repertoire or piano concertos. He does also work as an accompanist for competition candidates or recital performers.

Lesson details

Michael is adept in lead his students to play piano in a relaxed way of both mentally and physiologically to reach free movements of hands and beautiful tone. No matter what the level of students, he always focus on the training of essential techniques and sound imagination to help the students to gradually setup the capability of represent music in his own manner or emotion.

Moreover, Michael is quite familiar the piano literatures; and he is fond of introducing different styles of music to make informative lessons for his students. His students never feel nervous or unhappy in his lessons. He has been a very good friend of every student.

Piano Lessons: half hour to 2 hours depends on the demand of students
Theory Lessons: half hour to 1 hour per time.
