About me

Maria Ocampo was born in Manila, Philippines and grew up in Vancouver, BC. She started playing piano at the age of 7 years old in Jean Lyons School of Music. She holds an ARCT diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Ms. Mariana Medvedeva), a Bachelors of Music degree from the University of British Columbia with a major in piano (Prof. Alice Enns), and minor in voice (Dr. Carolina Plata).

Maria holds a second degree in Music Elementary Education (percussion, brass, and woodwinds instruments). She has conducted children, youth, & senior choirs in Langley, Surrey and Vancouver. One major choir she has conducted is the PraiseTeam youth choir singing as an opening guest for Grammy-award winning R&B singer Brian McKnight at the Orpheum Theater in Vancouver.

She continues to collaborate and accompany other musicians for recitals, weddings and other special events.

As a music teacher at St. Patrick's and St. Joseph's Elementary, her main goal is to inspire students to have the same passion as she does towards music. Her music program consists of learning Kodaly methods, percussion, recorder, guitar, ukulele, keyboard, voice, choir singing, and Spring & Christmas musical productions (acting/ dancing/singing).
