About me

I have been playing the piano since the age of five.I studied piano in South Africa, where I was born using the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College and University of South Africa Exam systems. Since being in Canada I have obtained my ARCT(Teaching) so that I am completely au fait with the exams here.
I obtain great satisfaction from knowing that knowledge has passed from me to the student. I believe in engendering a love of music in my students which will last for life.We have happy lessons with a great deal of interaction between teacher and student. Most of my students are with me for many years and I am privilged to see them grow from young children into self-assured adults.

Specialties

I enjoy teaching beginners as it is wonderful to see a student progress confidently from knowing nothing or very little about music to being able to be independant of me,being able to teach themselves new pieces.
I also enjoy the satisfaction of seeing students reach their goals when they pass their piano exams well.
I enjoy teaching theory.

Lesson details

My lessons follow a routine but I am always open to changing it if I feel it is called for. I like to first go through flashcards and note-finding. We proceed with technical and sight-reading work. Thereafter, I like to give my students some control and they are free to play me their pieces in any order they choose. We also do ear-training and creative playing.
Should we not have time to complete everything the piece or task is starred in their notebooks and we begin with it the next lesson. In this way everything is systematically covered.I have found that my students respond very well to the structure of my lessons and they particuarly enjoy deciding the order of the pieces.
