About me

Hi, my name is Jammy Smith. I am a Chinese from Hong Kong, moved to Vancouver about 12 years ago. I am fortunate to live here, enjoying the outdoor activities which I love, while I can still develop my career as a piano teacher.

As a mother of a 8 year old boy, I enjoy so much to see a child growing and learning. I understand how excited to let a child expose to the world of music and how important a good music program is. Having taught private lessons for 10 years, it is always my pleasure to see my students growing from a young little child, knowing nothing about piano and music, to a responsible young adult, still enjoying music or developing their career in music. Throughout those years, I can see how much learning music can help a child to develop its self-discipline, concentration and cooperation. It enhances motor skills and good memory, helps them with abstract thinking and builds their confidence. I feel very fortunate to be part of that process.

I have a special interest in the music education for young children but am equally comfortable teaching and performing the repertoires of different levels.

I teach a well rounded piano program of classical music, which is a basis for all other studies in modern, sacred, rock and jazz music. Currently, most of my students are young children from beginner level to intermediate level.

I also teach written theory for the preliminary, rudiments 1, rudiments 2 exams and harmony for levels 3 and 4.
