About me

Art is an Alchemical Technology, it must be used positively to impact personal transformation, human transformation and planetary transformation.

I have had a never-ending love affair with music. My earliest childhood memories are of trying to play everything I heard on the piano, classical, jazz and Brazilian jazz. My formal education began at the Harlem School of the Arts, where I studied with Dr. Armenta Adams a concerto winner of Juilliard School of Music. Dr. Armenta Adams was a student of Russian concert pianist / professor Sascha Gorodnitzki who studied with Josef Lhévinne. I then went on to continue my education Manhattan School of Music and the Leonard Davis Center for the Performing Arts where I earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in jazz piano performance. I have currently finished my MM in piano performance at Florida International University studying with world-renowned international pianist Kemal Gekic. I have participated in master piano classes with legendary pianists, Awadagin Pratt, Dr. Kenneth Cooper, Dr. Georffrey Burleson, John Lewis and Norman Simmons. I have also had the pleasure of studing jazz improvisation and performing with Maestro Nestor Torres and the illustrious Ron Carter. Each one of these legendary and brilliant musicians helped to bring out what I feel is a rare combination of exceptional technical skills, musical sensitivity and a passionate release of raw emotions. I have performed, recorded and taught in the NY/Tristate area, Canada, Miami, South America and the Caribbean. Influenced by the steamy jungles of Brazil, the colorful beats of the Caribbean and the powerful rhythms of Africa, I am a mosaic combination of classical, jazz, reggae, calypso, Brazilian/Latin cultural accents that embellish my performances as well as my teaching.

My philosophy is to push you to exceed your expectations and reach your goals while still having fun. I will push you, but gently and show you a lot of effective ways of practicing so that you acieve more in less time. I am big on technique and really believe in the importance of developing a solid technique, which I will help you to acquire. A strong technique will give you the tools you need to play whatever you want skillfully. With a commanding technique you will be able to focus on making beautiful music. After all it is all about the music ! Speaking of the music, I feel music has two sides, the side where you feel and connect with the music, composer and performer emotionally. There is also a scientific / mathematical side to music which is called music theory. Having an understanding of the analytical side of music helps you to understand what you are playing. Unforgettable performances are the result of deep analysis, emotional connection to what the composer has written and brilliant technical skill. When these elements are bridged together the results are astounding.

Lesson details

I generally divide the lesson into three sections: Technique Respertoire Music Theory I feel it is important to bring all of these elements into all areas of music education, particularly performance. I find it is also important to have some historical background on the composer and time period of whatever music you are playing so we will discuss these issues as well during the lessons and I will encourage you to do a little research on the composer of whatever music you are playing. This information is invaluable. What is most important is that you are enjoying your music educational experience. Looking forward to your lessons, enjoying your practice time and having a sense of accomplishment. I will push you to exceed your own expectations but you will set the pace as well as determine what music you desire to play.
