Gerard Satamian, MMus

Vancouver BC | V6R 2X9

About me

Of Armenian origin, I was born in Lebanon, started private piano lessons at age 6. At 13, I was admitted in Beirut Conservatory of Music. During the Civil War in Lebanon, I travelled to Armenia to continue my musical studies there. In 1982, I received my Masters Degree in piano from the prestigious Yerevan (Capital of Armenia) Conservatory. I started voice lessons around this time . Also, composed my first pieces. I started teaching piano in Beirut and the following year I moved to Los Angeles, California where I continued to teach and perform. In 1989, I immigrated to Vancouver, Canada. Since that time, I have been a piano instructor, a performer and a composer in that city.

Experience
Since I had a training to become a piano teacher, I started working as an instructor in 1982 at the Armenian Evangelical School in Beirut, Lebanon. In 1983, I moved to LA, California and started my piano studio. In 1989, I came to Vancouver where I was hired as a piano teacher at the Mount Royal Conservatory of Music. In 1993, I started working for Allegro Music School and still am. In 2008, I joined the staff of teachers at the Long & McQuade Education Centre. I also have my private students.
I am a member of BCRMTA and have outstanding references, if need may be.

Specialties

I prefer beginners and intermediate levels. Since it is hard to break bad habits ( but not impossible), it is nice to start things the correct way.

Lesson details

I work on one on one basis. I enjoy working with children, as well as adults.
I use different methods (Bastien, Faber, Palmer etc...)
I make sure the lesson is well-assimilated, understood. I worked successfully with kids as young as 3 years old. I make sure they can practise at home without the help of an adult.
I cater to the desires of the student and the parents: some just want to have fun; others would like to get involved with the Royal Conservatory Exam Program.
I a flexible, friendly, reasonable, patient and adapt to the individual personalities.

Gerard has classes for 30 mins, 45 mins and 60 mins and charges $25, $35, $50 respectively.
