About me

Daniel Lee www.DanielLeeStudios.com
I have been playing the piano for 30 years. My mother is a wonderful piano teacher who instilled in me a love for music and the arts. As soon as I began attending the Curtis Institute of Music I started maintaining a private studio knowing that one of the best ways to stay focused and prepared as a performer is to teach what you know to others. I especially try and overcome the concept that classical music is somehow out of reach for most people, and that learning it has to be hard and boring. I find that with the right approach teaching and learning can be fun for both persons involved.

I also play the trumpet and have an extensive background in classical and jazz composition. I enjoy having the tools to teach people how to write their own music especially if thats an interest they already have.

My main philosophy is that everyone should have access to the arts. No matter what level to want to reach as a student, being able to play and understand music helps you enrich your life forever and adds maturity and class to anyones personality. Specialties

Daniel Lee is a Curtis Institute of Music graduate who teaches and performs Piano and Trumpet. I specialize in beginning piano students of all ages. I use well established and structered approaches that emphasize the fun a student can have learning to play the piano. My goal is to give the student the opportunities to participate in competitions but mostly focus on enriching their life through music. I am unique because I have both a Home Base Studio and the ability to travel to anyone within 30 minutes of the DC metro area. I bring with me 15 years of teaching experience and many awards and competition titles. I am a member of the National Music Teachers Association and am able to allow my students to participate in a wide array of activities including studio recitals contests and our very own Summer Music Camp held on the Chesapeake Bay.

Lesson details

I Use both Bastien and other method books to provide a simple structure and as I progress I customize the pesson plans to fit the personality of the student. I include lots of duet playing in the lessons as this gives the student the feeling that they are accomplishing something and helps to build self confidence. I am also able to write out my own exercises so that I am never stuck without appropriate teaching materials.

Education and Accreditation

I hold a Bachelors degree in Music from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia PA as well as certifications from local music organizations.
I have been involved with the NSO summer music program as well as many others.
I also have been an artist at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and am available for teaching jazz as well.
