About me

I was born in Cambridge, Ontario, and I have loved music since a very young child. Piano lessons began at the age of 6. I taught primary school for a few years, and then my husband and I went to work in India and I taught music part time at the British School in New Delhi for several years.. During that time, I completed the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music piano teaching diploma from London, England. Soon after we returned to Ontario, and I taught piano there for 17 years. Once again we took a four year assignment in India with Habitat for Humanity and I taught piano in the International Community and also in the Indian Community.
Now we have settled in Victoria, B.C., my husband`s home place, and I have started teaching here.

I have taught piano now for 23 years and have taught everything from beginners to grade 10. I was very active in the ORMTA in Toronto and my students participated in many concerts, festivals and RCM Exams with very good success.
While living in Ontario, I did several years of extra studies in Pedagogy ...a special interest of mine.

I have taught students all the way from beginners up to grade 10. I work very hard in trying to inspire each student in the love of music.
My speciality would be in teaching with skill, passion and compassion.

Lesson details

For beginners I use several different methods according to what I feel is best for each student. I use Alfred, Premier Alfred Course, Hal Leonard, Faber and Faber. I also teach the Royal Conservatory of Music and prepare students for exams if they so desire.
A lesson would include: technical (suitable to the level or grade). Also exercises such as Dozen a Day. Sight Reading and Ear Training that is appropriate for the level. Then of course pieces. I also teach theory.
Beginners start with 30 minutes and then the time would increase later on.
I encourage my students to play in concerts which we have in our BCRMTA Chapter here in Victoria. I have a Christmas Concert and also a spring concert just for my own students. Having a concert at a Senior`s Home is also a favourite thing to do.
For me, each student is a unique person, and I work to bring the best out in each one.
