Coquitlam BC | V3B 6R3

About me

I had the satisfaction and pleasure of completing three Canadian piano performance qualifications and two academic qualifications with Music, after immigrating into Vancouver: LBCM, ACCM, ARCT,DipPerfArts (Music),and A.Arts (Music Major) degree. My teaching experience began in Singapore where I was employed as a piano teacher at a music school and at a Baptist church. I served extensively as pianist, organist, and accompanist at church choir performances and concerts. Besides teaching privately, I worked at G & G Music (Maple Ridge) for eight years before teaching at Salina Cheng Music Academy, and then Tom Lee Music in Coquitlam.

My inspiration comes from my students: their interest and love of music, their motivation, progress and their commendable achievements in music examinations. I treasure the relationships I have with my students, many of whom remain with me for up to eight or ten years. I appreciate the formation of friendship with parents and colleagues as an enrichment to my personal life.

I love challenges and continually seek to upgrade my knowledge, skills and abilities in music. In pursuit of a music degree, I recently completed, with distinction, a two-year Diploma in Performing Arts (a University-Transfer music program), with a Performance-Based (full) Tuition Scholarship.

I specialize in teaching Classical music especially in preparing students for RCM examinations (up to Grade 10/ARCT level). I also teach other areas of music: spiritual music (church hymns and choruses) with improvisations, and popular/jaz1 tunes for pleasure. In year 2015, 14 students of mine achieved first-class honours in RCM practical (Grades 3 to 9) exams and 11 were awarded Tom Lee Music medals at the Tom Lee Granville concert hall; several have also been awarded Tom Lee Music trophies (for RCM theory exams).

I have also had the invaluable experience of teaching an autistic student who began lessons as a beginner and later completed his music studies at RCM Grade 8 (practical and theory) with first-class honours in both categories. I love challenges and seek always to motivate students to strive to do their best.
