Adrienne Sim was born in Vancouver BC and started playing the piano at the age of five. She holds an ARCT diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music and a Bachelors of Music degree from the University of British Columbia with a major in piano, and minor in voice.
Adrienne has conducted choirs for various local churches in Coquitlam and has a specialization in Secondary Music Education (playing drums, flute, guitar, etc.). Adrienne also holds a second Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy from Capilano University and is an accredited music therapist with the Canadian Association of Music Therapy. Besides her enjoyment in teaching children and adults, she hopes to continue using music to inspire students to come.
What inspires me ? Watching my students enjoy a song after putting some good ol' practicing and hard work. The sense of accomplishment and enjoying playing the piano for aspiring musicians is something that inspires me to keep going in teaching and inspiring other teachers, parents, and students.
My philosophy in teaching is to provide a well rounded lesson. It's not just piano we are learning. It's music!
Besides learning notes and fingering, rhythm is essential as it is the driver of music and why we love listening to it. The importance of making goals, progression is a necessity too. I like to make sure there is a standard curriculum so parents and students can see progression as the year goes on. Lastly, balance. A balance in different genres opens doors of expression for students learning, whether it be jazz, classical, or pop.
